Sr. Research Scientist – Clinical (Stanford University School of Medicine)

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The primary purpose of the Sr. Research Scientist-Clinical is to facilitate, promote, and expand translational and clinical research within the Division. In particular, the Division has pioneered a data-driven approach to Interventional Radiology with structured reporting systems for clinical evaluation of patients as well as procedural dictations, and we seek an individual to maintain current systems and expand these efforts in order to answer clinical research questions.

The Division of Interventional Radiology in the Radiology Department (http://radiology.stanford.edu/) and the Stanford University School of Medicine is seeking a Sr. Research Scientist-Clinical with the goal of augmenting interventional radiology’s clinical research program and enhancing its Learning Health System.

Stanford’s Division of Interventional Radiology has a 4-decade history of developing minimally invasive procedures to meet unmet medical needs for patients world-wide. Numerous patents, devices, innovative procedures and companies have resulted from the work of the faculty members in the Division.

Currently, the division consists of 10 faculty members (8 MDs, 2 MD/ PhD), with plans to scale to 11 faculty members within 18 months. Additionally, at any time there are nearly a dozen interventional radiology clinical fellows, residents and medical students, all of whom contribute to the research mission.

Applicants should have an outstanding record of collaborative clinical and data science research with an emphasis on bioinformatics, clinical informatics, and clinical research. Specifically, the successful candidate should have a track record of working with a diverse set of patient-derived data sets (i.e., outcomes data, clinical data, imaging data, genomics, proteomics, claims data, cost data, quality data).

The ideal candidate should have an MD, PhD, MD/PhD or MPH with specialization in one of the following: biomedical informatics, biostatistics, clinical informatics, epidemiology, or computer science with a strong background of computer programming, database design, and working with large datasets.

It is expected that this candidate will partner with interventional radiology faculty and develop an externally funded research agenda. This will entail skills in grant writing, study design, data acquisition, data analysis, data visualization, machine learning, predictive modeling, survival analysis and treatment decision support.

Criteria for the position include demonstrated ability to obtain peer-reviewed research funding or the potential to secure such funding, excellence in collaborative clinical/data science research.

REQUIRED:

* Graduate degree (MD, PhD, MD/PhD, and/or MPH)

* At least 5 years experience since graduate degree

* Experience writing federal grants

* Outstanding record of collaborative clinical and data science research with an emphasis on bioinformatics, clinical informatics, and clinical research. Track record of working with a diverse set of patient-derived data sets (i.e., outcomes data, clinical data, imaging data, genomics, proteomics, claims data, cost data, quality data).

* Strong background of computer programming, natural language processing, healthcare data mining, machine learning, database design, and working with large datasets

* Skills in grant writing, study design, data acquisition, data analysis, data visualization, machine learning, predictive modeling, survival analysis and treatment decision support.
